Music & the City - IME Bangalore

Teaching has meant learning first! This really hit home when I set out to teach how Music shapes cities at Ahmedabad University. Most #music, whether classical, folk or popular, has a geographic origin. This is just as true for Western music as it is for Indian music. Fortunately, music doesn’t stay confined to its home but travels around the world. How does music shape cities—their architecture, design, culture and sociology? This is what I will be talking about this coming Tuesday Oct 31st at Indian Music Experience Museum in Bangalore. The talk will take you on a global tour from Nashville to Chennai with stops at Vienna, Varanasi and New Orleans—tracing the evolution of cities & musical genres from classical to folk, hip hop & popular!
